Why are the gymnastic bar events so
impressive?
The bar events in gymnastics include the
high bar, parallel bars and uneven bars. The high bar is a 2.4cm thick steel
bar raised 2.5m above the landing area. It is all the gymnast has to hold onto,
as he performs revolutions around the bar, twists, and changes direction.
In the parallel bars, men perform on two
bars slightly further than a shoulder’s width apart, and usually 1.75metres
high. The uneven bar is a women’s event. The gymnast navigates two horizontal
bars set all different heights. The height is generally fixed, but the width
may be adjusted. Gymnasts perform swinging, circling, transitional, and release
moves, that may pass over, under, and between the two bars.
All the gymnasts must finish their routine
with a controlled and acrobatic landing on both feet, with a perfectly poised
body. The spectacular flips and twists, and magnificent display of skill
strength and artistry all make the bar events very impressive to watch!
Why is the pommel horse one of the most
difficult of gymnastic exercises?
The pommel horse is probably the most
difficult of gymnastic exercises because the contestants are n allowed to pause
or hold a pose while they perform. The have to so a continuous sequence of leg
swings holding on to the handles of the horse with just their hands.
Contestants- who are usually men – must walk back and forth along the horse
with their hands. And do at least one of the exercises or routines holding on
with just one hand o. Of course the pommel horse is not a horse at all, but an
apparatus mad of wood or plastic, with handles made of leather or a non-slip synthetic
material. The word’ pommel’ is a reference to its resemblance to the high front
end of some horse saddles.
